The making of Eric Marciano's "Age of Insects" is revealed in this excellent volume devoted to obscure cinema. Both Eric and star, Lisa Zane, are interviewed. The video on this page is an interview from the DVD Extras of Jack Ramey, AKA "Doctor Benedict".

Gods In Spandex, the successor to the critically acclaimed Gods In Polyester, is a history of 80s low budget, independent genre films from all over the world.

Covers a global smorgasbord of obscure, low budget, and independent horror, sci-fi, T&A, and action films from 1980-1990.

It is an uncensored and unrestrained oral history of moviemaking memories, told entirely in the words of the actors and directors who made the films.

All of the contributors wrote their pieces specifically for GODS IN SPANDEX, so you've never seen any of this interview material anywhere else. The book also includes movie stills, posters, and personal photographs from the contributors' private collections, most of which have never been published before in any format!

 

Lizzie Simon's "Detour" BiPolar Presentation Part 2

Gilles Peress was asked by friend and HBO producer, Anastasia Pappas to work with her to create a powerful and intimate portrait of people living with bipolar disorder.

Two short films would accompany author Lizzie Simon on her tour for her new book "Detour". Knowing that the final product was to be projected on to large video screens Gilles wanted to shoot in a format that he knew would look great on a large screen but would give him the kind of intimacy that would be required to make these films a success.

The post-production process yielded exceptional portraits that made author Lizzie Simon, sponsor GlaxoSmithKline and Public Relations firm Cohn Wolfe  very, very happy.

Gilles Peress and the Paris Cinemateque

 

‘L’image d’après: Le cinema dans l’imaginaire de la photographie’ 

American Montage and Eric Marciano were honored to once again lend a hand to world-renowned photographer Gilles Peress. He called on AMI to assist him while he was putting together an exhibit for the legendary Cinémathèque Française collection.It was part of a massive creative study called , ‘L’image d’après: Le cinema dans l’imaginaire de la photographie’ 

The Image to Come: How Cinema Inspires Photography and film. Gilles piece which toured the world, depicts how photography is essential to location scouting in film.

Referencing a location photo book by the influential director Alain Renais Gilles explained location scouting through a fictitious fi;m about terrorism in the New York City area.

For some of the images in the exhibit Gilles utilized Eric’s contacts with a NY area SWAT team and his knowledge of some of the more interesting subterranean locale for photoand video shoots.

Lizzie Simon's "Detour" BiPolar Presentation Part 1

 

Gilles Peress was asked by friend and HBO producer, Anastasia Pappas to work with her to create a powerful and intimate portrait of people living with bipolar disorder.

Two short films would accompany author Lizzie Simon on her tour for her new book "Detour". Knowing that the final product was to be projected on to large video screens Gilles wanted to shoot in a format that he knew would look great on a large screen but would give him the kind of intimacy that would be required to make these films a success.

The participants would be filmed entirely on location in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood and had to be completed on a tight budget and schedule.  He called on his old friend Eric Marciano to assist in this complicated project.

Marciano started by booking a research session at NYC's Abel Cinetech to explore small sized Super 16 cameras. After a thorough review the Aaton Minima was chosen with a full compliment of prime lenses. Shooting with a mixture of Plus X and Tri X black and white film stock and working with an amazing group of participants and crew yielded truly beautiful footage.

The post-production process yielded exceptional portraits that made author Lizzie Simon, sponsor GlaxoSmithKline and Public Relations firm Cohn Wolfe very, very happy.
